February 26th, 2013Researchers at UCLA produced graphene supercapacitors — an amazingly efficient electricity-storage medium — using a standard DVD burner.
“The process is straightforward, cost-effective and can be done at home,” El-Kady said. “One only needs a DVD burner and graphite oxide dispersion in water, which is commercially available at a moderate cost.”

Looks interesting. Hopefully this will lead to the design of mobile phones that no longer need to be tethered to the wall by a charging cable. I look forward to the day when a modern handset has a longer battery life than my circa 1997 analogue Motorola Flip.
